Scottish Government Takes Action to save Renfrewshire’s Post Offices. |

Renfrewshire’s post offices will soon be able to apply for support from the Scottish Government’s newly formed one million pounds Challenge Fund.
The scheme is being launched to help post offices diversify their business and to ensure they maintain sustainability in the coming years. Successful applicants can gain £2,500 - £25,000 to be issued over the summer period. |

Renfrewshire Leads the Way for Public Petitions |

Last week at the Scottish Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee, Renfrewshire Council was commended on the way that a local petitioning scheme was set up for communities throughout the area. The SNP-led administration set up the scheme three years ago, and was the first council to set up such a scheme.
Speaking after the meeting of the Parliamentary Petitions Committee, Bill Wilson MSP, said: “The aim of local petitioning committees is to strengthen the link between elected officials and communities, allowing their priorities and ideas to be directly put to officials. Renfrewshire Council led the way in launching their own scheme, decentralising power to the local community. So far only three councils have created petitioning schemes, East Lothian, Stirling and Renfrewshire. |

Stop cuts to public services, clamp down on tax evasion says MSP |

During the Scottish Parliament’s finance and sustainable growth question time today, Dr Bill Wilson MSP (West of Scotland, SNP) highlighted calls by the Public and Commercial Services Union for Westminster to tackle the government deficit by clamping down on tax evasion and avoidance, rather than by cutting expenditure on public services. |

MSP condemns privatisation of rescue services |

The Ministry of Defence’s decision to discontinue search and rescue operations based at Prestwick airport in favour of transferring the service to Soteria Consortium, a for-profit search and rescue organisation based at Glasgow Airport, has drawn criticism from an MSP representing the West of Scotland. |
