The Tories Snatch Kids' Milk While Labour Snatch OAPs' Bus Passes
Monday, 30 August 2010

Dr Bill Wilson MSP, has slammed Labour for not pledging to maintain pensioners' free bus passes.Dr Bill Wilson MSP, has slammed Labour for not pledging to maintain pensioners' free bus passes.

Dr Wilson said, “With the Holyrood election just around the corner, it is time for Labour to say what, if anything, it stands for.  The SNP has laid its cards firmly on the table.   We are committed to maintaining the free bus pass.

“Last week, Labour would not commitment to using Barnett consequentials from health spending in England on health spending in Scotland.  This week Labour fails the test on bus passes.

“Having spoken to two elderly ladies recently who use their free bus passes, I am in no doubt of the immense value of this benefit to many of my retired constituents. Not only are these passes used to get to the shops and post office, but they help transport our elderly around Scotland, for holidays and to visit relatives in the Highlands, Borders and our islands, for example, which in turn brings business into their local economies.

“Just as I asked only a week ago for a commitment from Labour on health spending, I now ask them to say whether or not they are going to rob our elderly of their ability to travel.”
