| Wilson Praises Advances on Cancer Treatment Times |
| Wednesday, 18 November 2009 | |
Dr Bill Wilson, MSP for the West of Scotland, has praised NHS staff in meeting targets for the treatment of cancer patients once they are diagnosed. Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS have treated 95.9% of urgent referrals within 62 days. This is better than the 95% target, and compares well with the figure for the whole of Scotland, which sits at 95.7% of urgent referrals treated within the 62-day limit.
Dr Wilson said:
“These figures show the fantastic commitment and expertise of NHS staff in Scotland. This is the third consecutive quarter that these demanding targets have been met.
“The SNP Government is the first to meet these cancer waiting-time targets, and with continued success over the past year it is only right to highlight the excellent work of the NHS staff responsible.
“Being diagnosed with cancer is a setback, but with this government’s commitment to the NHS, no-one will have to worry about when they will receive their treatment.
“The government is working towards even tougher targets from 2011, and with current targets being met the future for those diagnosed with cancer should be a lot brighter.”
