Short-term business interests thwart Brazilian environmentalist and have negative social, environmental and human rights impacts. “European Investment Bank similarly culpable” says MSP Dr Bill Wilson, SNP MSP for the West of Scotland, last week lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament welcoming the publication of the Citizens’ Guide to the European Investment Bank (EIB). The booklet has been produced by a coalition of development and environmental NGOs known as “Counter Balance: Challenging the European Investment Bank” with the support of the European Union. It comprehensively attacks the EIB for its lack of accountability and its investment in predominantly extractive industries with great environmental, social and human rights impacts. |

Dr Bill Wilson, SNP MSP for the West of Scotland, has added his voice to those of the TUC and civil liberties organisations in condemning Action Against Business Crime’s National Staff Dismissal Register (NSDR). Dr Wilson, a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Human Rights and Civil Liberties, yesterday lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament deploring the register and calling for it to be scrapped immediately. |
