MSP's Scots labelling campaign gains support as Tattie T-shirts go on sale!
Thursday, 08 October 2009

Dr Bill Wilson, an SNP MSP for the West of Scotland today announced that he had become aware of novel backing for his campaign for shops to label products in Scots:  T-shirts!

He commented:  "I was sent an email pointing me towards a website selling T-shirts emblazoned with the words:

'Relabel in Scots NOW!

Time to call a potato...

A Tattie!'

"It would be great to see the supermarkets full of shoppers wearing such shirts.  I welcome this light-hearted boost for what is a serious campaign about the survival of Scotland's largest minority language.

"I do not believe that labelling products in Scots as well as English, or simply adopting Scots as well as English signage, would cause confusion or necessarily involve significant expense.  Indeed, the experience in Europe is that there is no downside to dual labelling.

"I look forward to the day when I can buy neeps, brambles and tatties labelled as such."
