Report praises police but more must be done to tackle trafficking

A motion in the Scottish Parliament has drawn attention to a report on people-trafficking in the UK which highlights the UK Government’s failure to implement its obligations under the Council of Europe’s Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, thus letting down many vulnerable and abused individuals, including children.

MSP urges Renfrewshire businesses to take advantage of 5,000 new apprenticeships

Dr Bill Wilson, MSP for the West of Scotland, has reacted to the Scottish Government’s announcement of 5,000 new modern apprenticeships coupled with an investment of £9.1 million by urging Renfrewshire businesses to take full advantage of the opportunity it provides.

 

He said, “This is another example of what the SNP government is doing to help people as we come out of the recession. Skills Development Scotland is developing the commissioning process for contracting the 5,000 apprenticeship placements, which have the potential to provide support to over 500 employers across Scotland.

Renfrewshire benefits as Strathclyde police nab �1.3-million from organised crime.

Renfrewshire will receive a substantial cash injection after Strathclyde police recovered over £1.3m from organised crime. The money was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act and is reinvested into community projects aimed at alleviating the effects of crime.

 

Local MSP Dr Bill Wilson said, “I applaud our police services for an outstanding result in tackling organised crime in the Strathclyde region, and their hard work has been replicated across Scotland, with over £3.5-million being confiscated by the police nationwide in 2008-2009.
