Lib Dems Break Trident Promise after One Month. |

Leading Liberal Democrats abandoned their principles by voting down its own pre-election policy of including Trident in the Strategic Defence Review. The SNP, Plaid Cymru and the Greens had hoped to include Trident in the review by tabling an amendment to the Queen’s Speech but were defeated with 10 of 11 Lib Dem MP’s voting against the amendment. Bill Wilson MSP said, “The unprincipled capitulation by the Lib Dem’s on Trident makes a mockery of their pre-election promises. In only one month they have broken their promise to add Trident to the Strategic Defence Review and thus already alienated voters across the country who took them on their word. |

Dr Bill Wilson MSP (West of Scotland, SNP) has congratulated the New South Wales (Australian) Department of Education and Training for employing advisors to help develop social norms-based resources to tackle alcohol abuse amongst secondary school pupils. The motion he has lodged in the Scottish Parliament to this effect also refers to the successful European Drug Addiction Prevention Trial and calls on the Scottish Government to consider implementing similar projects. |

Royal family should not be exempt from cutbacks in public spending, says MSP |

A Member of the Scottish Parliament has echoed an MP’s call for Royal finances to be frozen, pending an immediate inquiry and them being subject to the same scrutiny as other public finances. Dr Bill Wilson (West of Scotland, SNP) said, “I lodged a motion in support of Westminster’s Early Day Motion 123. I agree entirely with it. Frankly, I find the fact that unelected individuals with no contracts of employment can receive any public money to be wrong, but surely even royalists can agree that at a time of austerity the Royals’ income from the public purse should be reviewed. |
